Sober (short)
I was the first one to wake up. The back of my eyes burned a little and my mouth was dry. I couldn’t quite see it yet, but it was raining outside. I could hear it pounding on the patio. The white curtains captured the sunlight which made the room glow softly with morning light. I reached over to the side table and pushed back some of the beer bottles to reach for my phone. It lit up saying “8:23 am”. It felt earlier than that. I laid back down and my eyes almost closed to to go back to sleep until my hand grazed yours.
